MICROBLADING FAQ
Microblading is a popular permanent makeup technique focuses on enhancing and reshaping the eyebrows. It is a meticulous process that involves manually depositing pigment into the dermis using a manual handheld tool with fine, sterile, disposable needles to create the appearance of natural looking hair strokes.
During a microblading appointment at DOLLISTIC, you skilled and experienced artist creates tiny, hair-like strokes that mimic the appearance of natural eyebrow hair. By carefully designing and filling in sparse or uneven brows, microblading can achieve a more defined, symmetrical, and aesthetically pleasing eyebrow shape.
Contrary to common misconceptions, microblading is, in fact, a form of permanent tattooing. The term "microblading" has gained widespread popularity, leading to misunderstandings about its classification. It is essential to dispel these misconceptions: microblading is a tattoo process.
Various names, such as permanent cosmetics, semi-permanent makeup, micropigmentation, dermal implantation, eyebrow embroidery, microstroking, and long-time/long-lasting makeup, all refer to the same procedure: cosmetic tattooing. When pigment is inserted into the skin using any device (whether it be a manual tool or a machine), it falls under the definition of a tattoo. This classification is recognized by informed regulators, the medical community, and reputable dictionary sources.
It's important to acknowledge this reality, as denying the tattoo nature of microblading can create complications for individuals who, due to personal or religious reasons, would typically refrain from getting a tattoo. Understanding that microblading is a tattoo helps individuals make informed decisions aligned with their beliefs and preferences.
Microblading is suitable for both men and women who desire to enhance the appearance of their eyebrows. Here are some examples of who microblading can benefit:
- Individuals with Sparse or Thin Brows: Microblading is an excellent option for those with naturally sparse or thin eyebrows. It can help fill in gaps, create the illusion of fuller brows, and provide a more defined shape.
- Over-pluckers or Waxing Enthusiasts: If you have a history of over-plucking your eyebrows or frequently wax them, microblading can help restore a more natural and well-defined brow shape.
- Those with Alopecia or Hair Loss Conditions: Microblading can be a game-changer for individuals experiencing hair loss due to conditions like alopecia or other medical treatments. It can recreate the appearance of natural eyebrows, boosting self-confidence and saving time on daily eyebrow makeup routines.
- Busy Individuals: Microblading offers convenience for those with hectic schedules. By waking up with perfectly shaped and filled brows, you can save valuable time getting ready in the morning.
- People with Scars or Sparse Hair: If you have scars or areas with sparse hair on your eyebrows, microblading can help camouflage these imperfections and create a more symmetrical and balanced look.
- Athletes or Active Lifestyles: Microblading is an excellent choice for individuals who lead active lifestyles, such as athletes or frequent gym-goers. It remains intact during exercise and water-related activities, eliminating the worry of smudging or smearing.
- Anyone Seeking a Defined and Polished Look: Microblading is for anyone who desires a more defined, symmetrical, and polished appearance for their eyebrows. It can enhance facial features, frame the eyes, and contribute to an overall more balanced and aesthetically pleasing look.
It is important to consult with a professional permanent makeup artist at DOLLISTIC to assess your unique situation and determine if microblading is the right solution for you. Your experienced artist can provide personalized recommendations based on your specific eyebrow goals and preferences.
ABSOLUTELY NOT! Please avoid tweezing, threading, waxing, or modifying your eyebrows prior to your microblading appointment. It is essential to preserve your natural eyebrow hair growth as much as possible.
During your appointment, our experienced artist will work closely with you to create a customized brow design that seamlessly blends with your existing hair. The process begins with a brief consultation, followed by precise facial measurements and the creation of a personalized brow design outline. You will have the opportunity to preview and approve the design before any microblading takes place.
Please note that any hair growth outside of the design you choose may or may not be removed based on your preference. We respect your individual preferences and will accommodate your desired look accordingly.
Once your brows have healed after the microblading procedure, you can resume your regular brow maintenance routine, including tweezing, threading, or waxing, as desired.
Rest assured that our skilled artist will carefully work with your natural hair growth pattern to achieve a harmonious and natural-looking result. We aim to enhance your existing eyebrows while maintaining their unique characteristics.
Comfort is a subjective experience, and each individual may have a different level of sensitivity. To ensure your comfort during the procedure, we apply Zensa Anesthetic, a topical numbing agent, 15-30 minutes before the microblading begins. Our priority is to make your experience as comfortable as possible throughout the process. You'll be pleased to know that most of our clients find the discomfort comparable to tweezing or threading, and it is generally well-tolerated.
It's important to note that mild discomfort and slight swelling are common with any tattooing procedure. However, our team takes every precaution to minimize these effects.
To optimize your microblading experience, strict adherence to the Microblading Pre-Care Instructions is crucial. These instructions are designed to reduce bleeding and sensitivity during the service. Excessive bleeding or sensitivity can dilute the pigment color, resulting in less satisfactory outcomes.
Please be aware that having the procedure done during your menstrual cycle may increase discomfort. Additionally, if you are a frequent smoker or have regular sun exposure, the effectiveness of the anesthetics used during the treatment may be reduced. This can affect both the longevity of the numbing effect and the final results of the procedure.
If you have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, it's essential to consider that this condition may impact your sensitivity tolerance during the procedure. We recommend discussing any concerns or special considerations related to your condition with your skilled DOLLISTIC artist beforehand.
Our goal is to ensure your utmost comfort and satisfaction throughout the microblading process. If you have any further questions or require additional information, please don't hesitate to contact us. We are here to assist you and provide personalized support for your microblading journey.
The microblading healing process typically takes around 4 to 6 weeks to complete. It is important to understand the different stages of healing to have a better understanding of what to expect during this period.
Immediately after the procedure, your eyebrows may be tender, appear darker, redder, bolder, and slightly swollen. This is a normal part of the initial healing process. Over the next few days, the color will soften, and any swelling or redness will subside.
During the first week or two, you may experience some scabbing or flaking as the superficial layers of the skin start to heal. It is crucial to resist the temptation to pick, scratch, or peel at the scabs, as this can interfere with the healing process and affect the final healed results. Please allow any flaking to shed off on it's own!
In the following weeks, the color of your eyebrows will continue to lighten as the skin undergoes natural exfoliation. You may notice some patchiness or unevenness in color, but this will be addressed during the touch-up session, which is typically scheduled 4 to 12 weeks after the initial procedure.
It is important to follow the aftercare instructions provided by your DOLLISTIC artist diligently. This includes avoiding sweating, sun exposure, under water swimming , saunas, and heavy exercise during the initial healing period. Following your eyebrow aftercare instructions is crucial to promote proper healing.
By the end of the healing process, your eyebrows will have settled into their final color and shape. It is important to note that individual healing times may vary, and factors such as skin type, lifestyle, and adherence to aftercare instructions can influence the overall healing duration.
Remember, patience is key during the healing process. Allow your skin to heal naturally, and you will soon enjoy beautifully enhanced eyebrows that can last.
To receive Permanent Makeup at DOLLISTIC, the general age requirement is 18 years or older. We believe in providing compassionate care and support to those who are experiencing these conditions and treatments. Our goal is to help individuals regain their confidence and enhance their natural features through our permanent makeup solutions.

As a precaution, DOLLISTIC does NOT perform cosmetic tattooing on pregnant or nursing women. This precaution is primarily taken to prioritize the health and safety of both the mother and the baby.
During pregnancy, hormonal changes occur that can affect the body's immune system and skin. Additionally, the skin may be more sensitive and reactive during this time. Cosmetic tattooing involves the insertion of pigment into the skin, which creates small wounds. While the procedure is generally safe, there is a slight risk of infection or complications.
Moreover, the ingredients in the pigments and anesthetics used for cosmetic tattooing may not have been extensively tested for their effects on a developing fetus or the breastfeeding infant. It is crucial to err on the side of caution to ensure the well-being of both mother and child.
After childbirth or once you have finished nursing, you can discuss the possibility of undergoing cosmetic tattooing with a trained professional at DOLLISTIC. They can assess your eligibility and guide you through the process to achieve your desired results safely and effectively.
Microblading is a permanent cosmetic tattoo procedure. However, the pigment will significantly fade over time and we recommend scheduling an Touch-Up with your artist every 1-3 years to keep your brows looking their best.
Microblading is considered a semi-permanent cosmetic procedure, and its longevity can vary from person to person. On average, microblading can last anywhere from 1 to 3 years, depending on various factors.
Factors that can affect the longevity of microblading include:
- Skin tone and type: Oily skin tends to break down the pigments faster, resulting in shorter-lasting results compared to drier skin types.
- Age/Metabolism: Younger individuals may experience faster pigment fading due to their more active cell turnover rate.
- Lifestyle: Sun exposure, smoking tobacco, frequent chlorine swimming, excessive alcohol consumption, poor diet, etc. can all cause premature fading
- Skincare Routine: Certain acidic skincare products and treatments, such as chemical peels or exfoliating agents, can accelerate the fading of the pigments.
- Aftercare: Following the recommended aftercare instructions provided by your microblading artist is crucial for ensuring long-lasting results. Proper care, including avoiding excessive moisture, sun exposure, and harsh chemicals, can help extend the lifespan of the microblading.
- Overall Health: A healthy immune system plays a crucial role in the healing process and longevity of a tattoo. Individuals with compromised immune systems, or those on certain medications, may experience slower healing, increased risk of infections, and potential fading or distortion of tattoo pigments.
It's important to note that individual results vary, and the longevity of microblading can be influenced by several factors. Regular maintenance and touch-ups can help you enjoy well-defined and beautiful eyebrows for an extended period. Consulting with a professional permanent makeup artist at DOLLISTIC can provide you with personalized guidance and recommendations based on your unique circumstances.
Please note that final results can not be guaranteed as each unique skin type will hold pigments differently and break down at different rates. We will re-evaluate how your skin has received the pigment at your touch-up appointment and make any changes necessary.
Excessive bleeding during the tattooing procedure will reduce the amount of pigment absorption. Alcohol, certain medications and vitamins, or any other blood-thinners should avoided prior to your appointment. For a full list of what to avoid before and after your microblading appointment click here.
Sun exposure: The sun will extremely soften the look of your tattoo, and may also change the color appearance of the pigment. A physical sunscreen should be used once your brows fully heal to prolong your enhancement. Whenever possible, we encourage our clients to wear hats to protect their beautiful brows (and skin too)!
The choice of pigment color: Some colors may fade quicker than others, e.g. a blonde pigment may fade quicker than a dark brunette pigment.
Lifestyle: smokers, "sun worshippers", or anyone with skin that is in a state of distress (rosacea, acne, etc) may have less desirable results.
If you are iron deficient/anemic, your pigment will fade sooner and bleeding or bruising may occur during and after the procedure.
To ensure we achieve your desired shape and color during your appointment, we encourage you to bring a couple of reference photos that reflect your ideal eyebrow look. You may also fill in your eyebrows as you typically would, as this helps us understand the shape you feel most comfortable with. Rest assured, if there are any stray hairs outside of the final shape we agree upon, we will remove them for you.
If you have any upcoming vacation plans, we recommend scheduling your trip at least 30 days after your microblading procedure. This allows sufficient time for the healing process and ensures optimal results.
To promote a smooth procedure and minimize potential bleeding, we kindly request that you avoid blood thinners for at least 48 hours before your appointment. This includes substances such as Vitamin E, Aspirin, Niacin, fish oil supplements, and Ibuprofen. For a comprehensive list, please refer to our provided resources.
In preparation for your appointment, it's important to refrain from consuming alcohol or caffeine for 48 hours beforehand. This includes decaf coffee, teas, and kombucha. Additionally, please avoid Botox injections for at least 2 months prior to your microblading session.
If you have previously taken prescription Accutane, we kindly ask that you wait a minimum of one full year (12 months) before considering microblading. Users of Doxycycline are also encouraged to wait up to 3-6 months before undergoing the procedure.
To ensure optimal pigment retention, it is crucial to avoid sun and tanning bed exposure for 30 days both before and after your microblading appointment. If you arrive with a freshly tanned or sunburned skin, we will need to reschedule your session, and your deposit will be forfeited. Sun exposure can cause the pigment to fade and result in suboptimal healing. Additionally, sun exposure may lead to increased bleeding and sensitivity during the procedure.
Following these guidelines will help us provide you with the best possible results and ensure a successful microblading experience. If you have any further questions or require clarification, please don't hesitate to reach out. We are here to assist you every step of the way.
Right after a microblading procedure, it is normal for your eyebrows to appear darker, bolder, and more defined than your natural brows. The freshly microbladed area may also exhibit some redness and swelling, but rest assured; these effects are temporary and typically subside within a few hours to a couple of days.
The initial intensity of the color is due to the pigment being freshly implanted into the skin. Over the next few days, the color will soften and gradually lighten as your skin begins to heal. This process is completely normal and part of the natural healing and fading process.
During the first week, you may experience some scabbing or flaking as the superficial layers of the skin heal. It is important not to pick or scratch at the scabs to avoid disrupting the healing process and affecting the final results. Let the scabs naturally fall off on their own.
Overall, it is essential to remember that the immediate post-microblading appearance may be different from your final desired results. The true outcome of your microbladed eyebrows will become more apparent after the healing process is complete, typically within 6 weeks post-procedure. During this time, the color will continue to settle and any initial unevenness will be addressed during the touch-up session, which is usually scheduled 4 to 12 weeks after the initial procedure.
Your DOLLISTIC artist will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions to follow during the healing period. It's crucial to adhere to these instructions to ensure proper healing and achieve the best possible outcome. If you have any concerns about your post-procedure appearance or questions about the healing process, do not hesitate to reach out to your artist for guidance and reassurance.
Please review our detailed Pre & Post Care Instructions. You MUST strictly follow these instructions to ensure a comfortable, safe healing process and also to achieve the best possible results! We have the right to refuse service for any clients who do not follow Pre & Post Care Instructions.
During your appointment, we will analyze your skin tone to anticipate how pigment colors will heal and fade in the future. We will also mix pigments to ensure the color blends well with your natural hair and skin color. There are some cases, however, where the color may fade to different tones according to the individual’s response to the pigments (like lifestyle and iron deficiencies). Many factors affect these changes. At your follow up appointment, we will re-analyze how your body has responded to the initial color. If needed, special formula alterations to correct the color is made at this time. Your eyebrow tattoo will eventually look softer and have more of a "powdered" look. To keep your brows looking their best, a refresher appointment is suggested every 1-3 years. Pleae keep in mind that long-term results and preferences vary with each client.
Like all tattoos, microblading pigment will naturally change and fade over time. To ensure your eyebrows continue to look their best, we recommend scheduling a touch-up session every 1-3 years. The rate of fading can vary depending on factors such as your skin type, lifestyle, sun exposure, the pigment color used, your overall health, and whether any aggressive skincare products or services have been used after the procedure.
If you use acidic or brightening skincare products or undergo services like chemical peels, Retin-A, salicylic acid, or glycolic acid, it is important to fully occlude your brow tattoo with Vaseline (100% Petroleum Jelly) before applying these products to your skin.
In the event that you are planning to have an MRI, please inform the technician that you have a cosmetic tattoo containing iron oxide.
If you are considering laser treatments, it is crucial to fully cover your brow tattoo with 20% zinc oxide, during the laser procedure. Laser treatments have the potential to prematurely fade or alter the color of the pigment.
By following these precautions and guidelines, you can help maintain the longevity and integrity of your microbladed eyebrows. For any specific concerns or questions regarding your unique circumstances, please consult with your DOLLISTIC artist, who can provide personalized advice based on your needs.
